DefenseI still hadn’t divulged my one meeting with Coach Woods, and here Eddie and I both seemed to have landed in the thick of things.Little did I know at the time what a blessing that would turn out to be.I was still so under Eddie’s spell that I barely paid attention to anything else, it seemed. But even I started becoming aware of some new developments.I was still trying to figure out this whole Coach Woods situation. Most people seemed to think he was hiding from something, and just enjoying the coaching thing. But both Eddie and I at least suspected more than that already.Woods was quite the anomaly, for the whole town. Not only black, and from a big eastern city, but almost too well-built, way too well-hung (of course the guys talked, and Coach Woods wasn’t shy about hiding anything), and, honestly, way too smart for almost all of us. And even secretly seeming to hide some crazy wealth, as far as we small town kids could tell.He was also crazily talented as a coach, so it was little wonder that people quickly bought on to his maybe hiding from something, and helping us win games like mad in the meantime.And seemingly the only coach ever who dared to push
